Broadnose sevengill sharks (Notorynchus cepedianus) are unlike most other chondrichthyans. As their name would suggest, these sharks have seven gill slits instead of the typical five! But that’s not the only cool thing about these animals — their teeth are also very unique. The teeth on their lower jaw are comb shaped and the teeth on their upper jaw are jagged. When attacking large prey, these sharks will anchor their jaws with the lower teeth and then thrash their head back and forth to saw off pieces of flesh with their upper teeth.
